A PESCI is necessary for IMGs applying for limited or provisional registration to work in general practice. IMGs in the specialist pathway do not require a PESCI as they are assessed by the relevant specialist medical college.

A PESCI is position-specific and is not transferable from one position to another.

However, where an applicant’s circumstances have changed after a successful PESCI result, an applicant may apply to the Medical Board of Australia for approval to use an existing PESCI for a new position/location

PESCI Providers

The PESCI is conducted by a provider that has been accredited by the AMC according to the AMC PESCI Guidelines and Criteria.
